St Lucia 1931 Rum 6th Edition is expertly crafted to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the St Lucia Distillery. The 1931 range is released as a brand new expression every year, with a new recipe and new packaging, and they are intended to be collector's items for rum connoisseurs. The 6th edition represents the 2016 blend, of which a mere 60 cases have been made available to the UK market making this a rarity to be sought out. The St Lucia 1931 6th Edition blend consists of both pot and column still distillates, matured in former bourbon casks for between 7 and 11 years. A final 10% of the blend is a pot still rhum agricole (derived from sugar cane juice rather than molasses). There are aromas of rich raisin fruit, complimented by tropical notes of orange peel, honeyed banana, spices and a touch of crème brulée. Dry on the palate, it has a funky pot still character, flavours of tropical fruit and coffee, with a fresh grassy note imparted by the agricole. The St Lucia 1931 6th Edition is a well balanced and truly exceptional rum, best savoured slowly. |
