Armagnac is a type of brandy hailing from Gascony in southwest France. Unfortunately often overshadowed by its more famous relative, Cognac, Armagnac is less well known outside of Europe, yet is the oldest brandy to be distilled in France. It distinguishes itself from Cognac in its distillation method: Where Cognac is distilled twice using a pot still, Armagnac is traditionally distilled only once using a column still. By distilling fewer times, more aromas and flavours are retained creating a brandy favoured by many enthusiasts.
