Description

Description:

Named after the legendary whirlpool off the coast of Islay, Ardbeg Corryvreckan is a bold and untamed expression that captures the raw power of the island's elemental landscape. Produced at the iconic Ardbeg Distillery, this intensely peated single malt is revered for its depth, structure, and commanding presence. Matured in a combination of American oak and French oak casks, Corryvreckan pushes Ardbeg's smoky house style into darker, more muscular territory. The French oak influence adds grip and spice, amplifying the whisky's natural intensity while enhancing its complexity. The result is a dram that feels deep, swirling, and almost tidal in its progression - powerful yet remarkably controlled.

True to its Islay heritage, Ardbeg Corryvreckan delivers a profound peat character layered with maritime salinity, dark fruit richness, and savoury spice. It is not a gentle introduction to smoky whisky; rather, it is a statement bottle designed for those who appreciate bold flavours and unapologetic character. Despite its strength of personality, Corryvreckan is impressively balanced. Beneath the smoke lies a core of sweetness and fruit that reveals itself gradually, rewarding slow sipping and patient exploration. It is a whisky that evolves dramatically in the glass, much like the whirlpool from which it takes its name.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep gold with polished bronze flashes.

Nose
Powerful and aromatic. Waves of tarry peat smoke, sea spray, and smoked bacon surge forward, followed by blackcurrant, dark cherry, and cracked black pepper. Hints of espresso and toasted oak linger beneath.

Palate
Full-bodied and intense. Bitter dark chocolate, charred oak, and rich espresso collide with briny sea salt and smoky barbecue notes. A surprising sweetness of ripe berries and molasses rises through the peat, adding depth and dimension.

Finish
Long, bold, and warming. Lingering smoke, black pepper spice, and dark fruit slowly fade, leaving a dry, smoky echo that endures.
