Description

Description:

Auchentoshan Three Wood is a masterclass in multi-cask maturation - a Lowland single malt that tells a story through wood. Crafted at the historic Auchentoshan Distillery, it embarks on a three-stage cask journey that elevates its character from light and bright to deep and richly textured. The whisky begins life in American oak bourbon barrels, where it gains a creamy sweetness and light vanilla warmth. Next, it spends time in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks, which bring in layers of fruit richness and gentle spice. Finally, the spirit rests in Pedro Ximenez (PX) sherry casks, infusing luscious dried fruit complexity and a luxurious weight. Each wood layer doesn't just add flavour - it interacts with what came before, creating a cumulative depth that is greater than the sum of its parts.

This triple-cask evolution makes Three Wood immediately engaging but endlessly rewarding. On first encounter it's approachable and generous, yet with every sip new nuances reveal themselves: hints of bright orchard fruit, richer dried fruit sweetness, and a subtle thread of oak spice that binds everything together. It's a whisky with personality and poise - expressive without ever feeling heavy. Three Wood is ideal for drinkers who appreciate a dram with harmony and dimension, where every glass feels like a new discovery.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Warm bronze with glimmers of ruby - a visual reflection of its sherried finishing.

Nose
A vibrant interplay of blackcurrant jam, zesty orange peel and brown sugar. As it opens, richer notes of raisin, roasted hazelnut and soft spice make themselves known, giving the aroma both brightness and depth.

Palate
Sumptuous and layered. Orchard fruit and toffee mingle with dark forest fruits, butterscotch and a hint of cinnamon warmth. The PX influence adds luscious dried fruit tones while smooth oak keeps the profile grounded and refined.

Finish
Long, velvety and resonant. Lingering dried fruit richness, gentle oak spice and a touch of sweet citrus peel fade gracefully, leaving a lasting impression of warmth and complexity.
