Description

Description:

Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 8 is a remarkable expression born from an ambitious and meticulous cask-marrying programme at Balvenie Distillery. Part of the iconic Tun 1509 series, Batch 8 celebrates the artistry of blending - not in a vatting vessel, but in a large marrying tun numbered 1509 - where carefully selected casks are brought together to interact, integrate, and evolve under close supervision by the Malt Master. Unlike straightforward single-cask or single-wood whiskies, Tun 1509 is all about synergy: dozens of handpicked casks, each with its own character and maturation history, are married and allowed to harmonise over months. This patient process lets the wood influenced spirits find equilibrium, creating a whisky that feels greater than the sum of its parts - rich, layered, and telling a story of time, temperature and technique.

Batch 8 is part of a series that showcases how carefully chosen casks can interact to build texture, depth and nuance without dominance by any single element. The result is a dram with remarkable breadth - balancing spice, fruit, oak and sweetness with poise. It's a whisky that invites reflection and rewards methodical sipping, rewarding drinkers with layers of complexity that reveal themselves over time.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Warm amber with glints of copper - a visual hint at its rich, mature character.

Nose
Opener notes of ripe orchard fruit and honeyed vanilla are joined by dried apricot, toasted almond and gentle oak spice. With air, hints of citrus peel and soft brown sugar emerge, creating an aromatic mosaic that feels deep yet inviting.

Palate
Silky and layered. Vanilla cream and baked apple mingle with honeyed fig, marmalade and a whisper of clove. Gentle oak tannin and warm cinnamon integrate seamlessly, delivering satisfying complexity without harshness.

Finish
Long, composed and elegant. Lingering dried fruit sweetness and oak spice fade slowly, leaving subtle notes of citrus zest and soft malt that encourage another contemplative sip.
