Description

Description:

Produced in Ay in the Champagne region, this cuvee represents Bollinger’s flagship vintage release, with the 2014 edition showing a notable shift toward precision and tension compared to the house’s typically broader style. Presented in magnum format, it benefits from slower ageing, finer mousse, and improved integration. The blend for 2014 is composed of approximately 61 percent Pinot Noir and 39 percent Chardonnay, sourced from 19 crus across the region. Unlike the more common Bollinger ratio, this vintage shows a slightly higher proportion of Chardonnay influence, contributing to its freshness and linear structure.

Vinification follows Bollinger’s traditional approach, with fermentation carried out entirely in small oak barrels. This method introduces controlled oxygen exposure, enhancing texture and complexity while preserving structure. Each parcel is vinified separately, and only the first pressing is used. Malolactic fermentation is often limited or partially avoided, maintaining acidity and allowing the wine to develop over extended ageing. The wine is aged on lees for many years and uniquely matured under cork rather than crown cap, contributing to a more refined texture and bubble structure.

The 2014 vintage itself was marked by variable conditions, including a warm early season followed by cooler, wetter periods. Despite this, careful selection produced a wine defined by energy, minerality, and precision rather than weight. Magnum format enhances these qualities further. The larger volume reduces oxidation, allowing slower development and greater integration, resulting in a more cohesive and age-worthy Champagne. The overall style is more linear and mineral-driven than many Bollinger vintages, with strong structure, fine acidity, and a focused profile built around citrus and orchard fruit rather than overt richness.

Tasting Notes
Nose:
Precise and layered, with cherry, lemon, and quince. Notes of bergamot, hazelnut, and almond develop, with a subtle fresh sea air character.

Palate:
Structured and refined, with citrus, orchard fruit, and a clear mineral backbone. Fine bubbles support a textured but focused profile, with balanced acidity and depth.

Finish:
Long and persistent, with citrus, light spice, and a saline mineral edge. Clean, precise, and driven, with strong length and clarity.
