Cousino Macul

Cousiño Macul was established in 1856 by Matías Cousiño and his wife Isidora Goyenechea, visionary figures who helped lay the foundation for modern Chilean winemaking. At a time when Chile’s wine industry was still emerging, the family invested heavily in importing noble European grape varieties, advanced vineyard practices, and state-of-the-art cellar technology. Their forward-thinking approach included bringing French winemakers, equipment, and barrels to Chile, helping elevate local production to international standards decades before Chile became a global wine powerhouse.

Unlike many historic wineries that have been absorbed into large corporate groups, Cousiño Macul has remained under family ownership for generations. This continuity has allowed the estate to maintain a consistent vision, long-term vineyard investment, and a classical house style focused on balance, structure, and longevity. It is particularly known for its mastery of Cabernet Sauvignon, which thrives in the Maipo Valley’s climate and soils. The winery also produces acclaimed wines from Merlot, Carménère, Syrah, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc, combining international grape varieties with a distinctive Chilean identity.
