Drawing on Eden Mill's credentials as Scotland's original single-site brewery and distillery, Oak Gin utilises skills from both the brewing and distilling sides of the business. In the 19th Century, the most popular gins of the day were stored in oak casks; this gin is a throwback to these bygone traditions, matured in oak beer casks from the Eden Mill brewery. The cask maturation imparts oak spices as well as notes of vanilla and caramel, distinctly reminiscent of a whisky. Honey, spiced fruit and ginger notes are evident on the palate alongside a touch of smokey bitterness. A gently warming finish brings caramel and cinnamon highlights. With its similarities to whisky, Oak Gin is great sipped neat in a similar fashion but can also be mixed perfectly with ginger ale and a slice of orange. Alternatively, Eden Mill suggest it as a unique substitute for vodka in an Espresso Martini. |
