Description

Description:

This is one of Flagstone’s more serious reds, built around Cabernet Sauvignon and designed to show both the richness of the Western Cape and a more structured, age-worthy style. The fruit is sourced from multiple vineyard sites, which helps bring balance, combining ripeness with freshness rather than leaning too far in either direction. There is a clear sense of depth from the outset, but it does not come across as heavy or closed. Instead, the wine settles into itself, with the fruit, oak, and savoury notes appearing together, giving a composed and slightly grounded impression. The time in French oak adds shape and a gentle warmth, but remains integrated within the wine. As it opens, the darker fruit broadens and softens slightly, while a cooler edge of herbal and cedar notes keeps everything in check. That contrast between ripeness and freshness is what defines the style, giving it both weight and clarity at the same time.

Across the palate, the wine moves with a steady, deliberate flow, where structure plays a more noticeable role than in simpler Cabernet. The tannins are firm but well integrated, giving grip and length without becoming harsh, and the fruit remains closely aligned with the spice and oak throughout. There is a sense of layering rather than progression, with dark fruit, subtle mint, and chocolate notes sitting within the wine rather than appearing in stages, which keeps the overall feel cohesive. The texture is full and slightly dense, but controlled, with a polished edge that reflects both the winemaking and the time in oak. Overall, this is a more structured and complete Cabernet Sauvignon, showing a step up in depth and seriousness from everyday styles, with a focus on balance, texture, and a long, composed finish.
