Description

Description:

Gaia Wines' Vinsanto By Gaia 8 Years Old from Santorini is an outstanding expression of the island's ancient winemaking tradition, showcasing the unique character and potential of indigenous Greek grape varieties. Carefully crafted by pioneers of modern Greek wine, Gaia Estate, this Vinsanto originates from Assyrtiko, Aidani, and Athiri grapes grown in the volcanic soils of Santorini. The vines, some aged up to 80 years and cultivated at the island's highest elevations, thrive thanks to a traditional basket weaving method-'kouloura'-that protects the grapes from harsh winds and searing sun. After selective hand harvesting, the grapes are dried under a mix of sun and shade to deliver both luscious sweetness and invigorating freshness. Patiently aged for at least eight years in oak barrels, this Vinsanto emerges as an exquisite dessert wine-a testament to Gaia's commitment to quality and innovation.

Tasting Notes
Appearance:
A beautiful, rich amber-brown hue with golden glints, signifying both age and intense concentration. The wine's viscosity is evident, leaving long, slow legs in the glass.

Nose:
Prepare for an aromatic explosion: dried figs and raisins lead an opulent medley, punctuated by notes of caramel, coffee, and vanilla. The bouquet is layered further with enticing hints of cinnamon and delicate floral nuances, courtesy of Aidani and Athiri in the blend.

Palate:
Lusciously sweet without overwhelming the senses, the palate balances richness with remarkable freshness, thanks to Assyrtiko's vibrant backbone. Flavours of sun-dried fruits unfold alongside creamy caramel, espresso, and a touch of baking spice. The texture is decadent and velvety, echoing the wine's age and careful maturation.

Finish:
The finish is long, complex, and harmonious-marked by a lingering interplay between sweetness and uplifting acidity. Hints of vanilla and spice linger, inviting sip after sip. Experience the true spirit of Santorini with Vinsanto By Gaia 8 Years Old-an extraordinary wine to savour on its own or paired with desserts, blue cheese, or roasted nuts.
