Description

Description:

Ktima Gerovassiliou Malagousia from Epanomi is an iconic expression of one of Greece's most exciting white grape varieties. Produced by Evangelos Gerovassiliou, the visionary winemaker who revived the nearly extinct Malagousia grape in the early 1980s, this wine showcases the profound potential of the varietal. Grown on meticulously cared-for, certified sustainable vineyards surrounded on three sides by the sea, the unique terroir of sandy soils, rich with sea fossils, combined with a Mediterranean climate, imparts remarkable character to the wine. At Ktima Gerovassiliou, traditional vineyard practices are harmoniously blended with modern winemaking techniques. A portion of the Malagousia grapes undergo skin maceration to enhance aromatic complexity, while fermentation takes place in both stainless steel and seasoned French oak. Ageing on the lees with regular batonnage further enhances the wine's texture and layers of flavour. The result is a benchmark Greek white wine with a contemporary flair and a strong sense of place.

Tasting Notes
Appearance:
Pale lemon-yellow in colour, highlighted by a radiant clarity and a touch of green hue, reflecting its fresh and lively nature.

Nose:
The bouquet is vibrant and expressive, opening with heady aromas of white pear, ripe peach, and fresh lemon zest. There are seductive floral undertones of jasmine and hints of exotic spice. A distinctive flinty minerality emerges, evocative of the vineyard's proximity to the sea.

Palate:
This Malagousia is opulent and textured, offering a harmonious balance between fruit, floral, and spice. Succulent notes of peach and citrus are layered with a subtle spiciness and a creamy mouthfeel imparted by lees ageing. The texture is both rich and refreshing, offering both weight and vitality.

Finish:
The finish is long and mouthwatering, driven by crisp acidity and a deliciously flinty, mineral character. The wine leaves a lingering impression of freshness, perfume, and a whisper of spice, making it as memorable as it is moreish.
