Description

Description:

Glenmorangie 1997 is the seventh expression in the Grand Vintage collection. The expression is first matured for 10 years in Bourbon barrels. A portion was then removed and placed for 13 years in ex-red wine barrels that once contained red wine from Château Montrose in the Saint-Estèphe appellation in Bordeaux, France. During this time, the spirit has developed extraordinary dark berry fruit flavours.

Dr. Bill Lumsden, Director of Whisky Creation at Glenmorangie, comments on this seventh edition: "The Glenmorangie Grand Vintage 1997 is dramatically different: lively with aromas of red berries, seductive spice, melting marzipan and floral notes. Inspired by my dream of expressive single malts and in the spirit of the kaleidoscopic style of Glenmorangie."

Deep ocher in colour. The nose displays an amazing, fruity-perfumed complexity. Floral notes of roses, jasmine and cloves mix with aromas of red berries, mint toffee, pastries or cakes and top notes of sweets. With a little water, more mild, floral notes of roses and cloves emerge, with a subtle spiciness of sweet chilli, cloves and ginger.

On the palate there's a slight tingling, a gently spicy taste, followed by a symphony of sweet candy flavours, red berry fruits with pineapple and pear and mandarin touches in fruit jelly. With sweet note hints of ginger and chilli, fine marzipan and candied apples.

The finish is sweet, rich, long and delicately spicy.

The bottle comes presented in a solid wood Glenmorangie branded box.
