This is the Rehoboam (4.5L) version of one of the most refined tawny Ports available. At this level, the focus shifts away from fruit and towards age, precision, and seamless integration, and the large format turns it into a true statement bottle. Graham's has been producing Port since 1820 and is particularly known for its expertise in long cask ageing, which is essential for wines like this. The wine itself is aged for an average of 30 years in seasoned oak, during which slow oxidation transforms it into something much more delicate and complex—developing nutty, honeyed, and dried fruit character while softening everything into a cohesive whole.
What makes this format different is not how the wine was aged (that's already done), but how it behaves once opened and how it's used:
- Designed for events / high-end service - often presented in a wooden case
- Slower oxidation after opening, so it holds quality over multiple pours
- Strong visual impact (this is very much a centrepiece bottle)
In terms of style, everything feels fully resolved. There's no sharpness or separation - just a continuous, mellow profile where sweetness, oak, and maturity are completely integrated. Compared to the 20-year, this is noticeably more delicate, layered, and refined, with less emphasis on richness and more on detail. The texture is exceptionally smooth and weightless for something so concentrated, which is a hallmark of well-made 30-year tawny.
