Description

Description:

Produced in the Cognac region of France, this expression represents a modern and lighter interpretation of the VSOP category, designed with versatility in mind. Created by the house of Hine, which dates back to 1763, it draws exclusively from eaux-de-vie sourced from Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne crus, qualifying it as Fine Champagne Cognac. The base spirit is distilled from white wines made primarily from Ugni Blanc grapes. These wines are deliberately low in alcohol and high in acidity, making them well suited for distillation. The process is carried out in traditional copper pot stills using double distillation, a method that concentrates flavour while refining the spirit.

Following distillation, the eaux-de-vie are aged in French oak casks. The VSOP classification requires a minimum of four years of ageing, though blends often include older components to achieve balance and consistency. The use of oak contributes notes of vanilla, light spice, and gentle tannin, while also allowing controlled oxidation to develop complexity. Compared to more traditional or heavier Cognacs, this expression is blended to emphasise freshness and approachability. The profile is intentionally lighter, with less emphasis on heavy oak or deep oxidative character. This makes it particularly suited to mixing, including long drinks and cocktails, while still maintaining the structural elements of Cognac.

Blending is a key stage, where eaux-de-vie of different ages and characteristics are combined to create a consistent house style. Reduction to bottling strength is carried out gradually to preserve integration and aromatic balance. The overall style is clean and fruit-driven, with a focus on balance between youthful freshness and moderate oak influence.
