Lagavulin Distiller's Edition is a vintage expression of Lagavulin, matured for the same patient 16 years as the distillery's core expression, but blended from whiskies distilled in a single year. The Distiller's Edition also receives a second maturation period in sweet Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. This vintage was distilled in 2001 and bottled in 2017. On the nose, Lagavulin's signature briny, smoky peatiness bursts forth tempered by bright fruity notes, vanilla and caramel. Smooth and full bodied on the palate, peat and smoke flavours maintain their prominence, complimented by oak and leather. Fruitier notes appear leading into the finish. A bold and highly acclaimed dram. |
