Laphroaig Quarter Cask Islay Single Malt Whisky is a bold and characterful expression that amplifies the distillery's signature style through an unconventional maturation process. Produced at Laphroaig Distillery, it begins in traditional ex-bourbon barrels before being transferred into much smaller "quarter casks". These smaller casks increase the contact between spirit and wood, accelerating maturation and intensifying flavour, resulting in a whisky with greater depth, texture, and a slightly softer edge compared to the standard 10 Year Old. The profile is unmistakably Laphroaig, but with an added richness and roundness. Peat smoke arrives immediately - earthy, medicinal, and coastal - carrying notes of seaweed, iodine, and charred wood. Alongside this intensity, the influence of the smaller casks brings out sweeter elements like caramel, vanilla, and coconut, creating a contrast between smoke and sweetness that feels more integrated and textured. The mouthfeel is fuller and slightly oily, allowing flavours to develop steadily rather than hitting all at once. It's a whisky that delivers a strong Islay identity while offering a slightly more approachable, rounded take on that bold style.
