Description

Description:

This is a demi-sec Champagne from Louis Roederer, made with a higher dosage that shifts the balance towards a softer, more rounded style, while still keeping the house’s underlying sense of control and structure. It is designed to be more approachable and flexible, often suited to pairing with desserts or enjoyed on its own when a slightly richer profile is preferred. Compared to a brut style, the wine feels more open from the start, with the sweetness smoothing out the acidity and bringing the fruit forward more clearly. At the same time, Roederer’s style keeps it from becoming heavy, so there is still a sense of freshness running through it.

The overall shape is less about definition and more about flow, with the fruit and texture blending together in a continuous way, rather than moving through clearly marked stages. The added sweetness rounds out the edges, giving the wine a softer and more generous feel across the palate. Subtle notes of pastry and almond sit within the wine rather than on top of it, adding a bit of depth but staying fully integrated into the overall profile. The mousse is gentle and even, supporting the softer structure and contributing to the wine’s smooth and accessible texture. Overall, this is a more relaxed and rounded expression, where sweetness, fruit, and freshness are balanced in a way that feels easy, composed, and adaptable.

Clean and mellow, with sweetness easing into a lightly fresh, balanced close.

Background: Roederer own over 214 hectares of vineyards from the three main growing zones in Champagne. The vineyards are located in the finest villages, such as Ay, Verzenay, Vervy, Avize and Cramant where the plots rank between 95% and 100% on the official classification scale for the 'crus'. Roederer source two thirds of their grape needs from their own vineyards, which is the largest proportion of any champagne house and enables them to have strict control over their raw materials. For example Roederer 'green harvest' in July to reduce the amount of grapes and thus improve quality. The harvest takes place usually mid September and takes around 15 days. 600 people work in the Louis Roederer vineyards, harvesting the grapes by hand. The grapes are then transported quickly and efficiently to one of Louis Roederer's three pressing centres, which are in the heart of its vineyards.
