At the heart of the collection is Luxardo's traditional Sambuca dei Cesari, made with star anise, herbs and spices, sugar and pure volcanic water from the company's own springs. Still produced according to the Luxardo family recipe, it provides the classic sweet, aromatic anise character for which Sambuca is famous. Alongside it, Passione Nera takes the style in a darker direction with liquorice, while Raspberry Sambuca introduces a vibrant fruit character.
The result is a mixed case with plenty of variety without straying too far from the unmistakable character of Sambuca. 2 x Luxardo Sambuca dei Cesari 70cl
The original and most traditional expression in the case, Luxardo Sambuca dei Cesari combines star anise with herbs and spices to create a rich, unmistakably Italian liqueur. The aroma is intensely aromatic, bringing together aniseed and liquorice with touches of spice. On the palate it is sweet, smooth and full-bodied, with rich anise and liquorice joined by subtle coriander and peppery notes. Luxardo suggests enjoying it neat, over ice or in the traditional Italian style with three coffee beans.
2 x Luxardo Passione Nera Sambuca 70cl
Passione Nera offers a darker and slightly more intriguing interpretation of Sambuca, combining the familiar flavour of star anise with the distinctive character of liquorice. Smooth and velvety across the palate, the liquorice brings depth to the sweeter aniseed character, while delicate hints of cardamom and coriander add another layer of spice. The finish returns to dark liquorice, giving this expression a richer and more complex personality than traditional clear Sambuca.
2 x Luxardo Raspberry Sambuca 70cl
For the fruitier side of the collection, Luxardo Raspberry Sambuca combines the traditional Sambuca style with raspberry flavour, creating a colourful alternative to the classic expression. The underlying sweetness and distinctive anise character are joined by juicy red-berry notes, giving the liqueur a brighter, fruit-led feel. Raspberry softens and complements the liquorice-like character of the anise, resulting in a sweet, aromatic and lively Sambuca that works particularly well served chilled or over ice. Luxardo lists its raspberry expression at 38% ABV alongside the traditional and liquorice versions.
