Description

Description:

First created in 1912, this Cognac is one of the defining expressions of the Martell house, known for its emphasis on Borderies eaux-de-vie rather than a sole reliance on Grande Champagne. This choice shapes a distinctive profile, as Borderies brings a softer, more aromatic character with pronounced floral and nutty notes. Production follows traditional Cognac methods, with double distillation in copper pot stills and extended aging in fine-grained French oak. Martell is known for using lightly toasted barrels, which allows the spirit to develop complexity without overwhelming it with heavy wood influence. The blend itself is composed of eaux-de-vie of varying ages, many well beyond VSOP level, selected for balance and aromatic depth rather than strict age classification.

The style is defined by elegance and integration, where fruit, spice, and oak are carefully balanced rather than layered for intensity. Compared to more robust Cognacs, it leans toward finesse, with a focus on smooth texture and aromatic lift.

It is best appreciated neat, allowing its nuanced character to unfold gradually in the glass.
