Created as a higher expression of the Martell house style, this XO is built from a blend of mature eaux-de-vie sourced primarily from Borderies and Grande Champagne. The inclusion of Borderies is particularly significant, as it brings a softer, more aromatic profile with notes of violet and nuts, while Grande Champagne contributes structure and length. Distillation is carried out in copper pot stills without lees, a Martell signature that results in a cleaner, more refined base spirit. Aging takes place in fine-grained French oak with a relatively light toast, allowing the spirit to develop complexity without excessive wood dominance. Over time, oxidation and extraction from the cask introduce layered notes of dried fruit, spice, and subtle sweetness, while maintaining clarity and balance.
The blending process is central, combining eaux-de-vie of varying ages to achieve a profile that emphasises smoothness and aromatic lift rather than heaviness. The result is a Cognac that sits between richness and finesse, with a polished texture and a well-integrated structure. Given time in the glass, it gradually reveals additional layers, making slow sipping the most rewarding way to experience its full range.
