Penfolds

Penfolds is one of Australia's oldest wineries, founded in 1844 by Christopher Rawson Penfold and his wife Mary. They acquired 500 acres of land near the Mount Lofty Ranges, bringing with them from England cuttings from French grape vines which they planted. The Penfolds initially produced fortified wines, attempting to concoct tonic wines with medicinal properties, but expanded their range as popularity grew.

In the 1960s, the Penfolds introduced their "Bin" system of wine categorisation, and began naming many of their varietals by this system. This system persists to this day and has formed a signature part of their range.
