Description

Description:

Produced in London, this gin is a revival of a little-known 19th-century style, inspired by historical references to "butter gin" found in old London gin palaces. The modern version is built on a classic London Dry base, using traditional botanicals such as juniper, coriander, and citrus, before undergoing an unconventional secondary process. What defines this spirit is the use of a butter washing (or redistillation) technique, where the gin is infused or redistilled with real butter before being filtered. This process leaves no fat in the final liquid, but transfers texture and flavour compounds, resulting in a noticeably richer mouthfeel and subtle savoury notes.

The addition of butter introduces compounds that soften the sharper edges of the spirit, giving it a rounded, almost creamy texture. At the same time, the classic botanical structure remains intact, creating a contrast between familiar juniper brightness and a deeper, more indulgent body. A faint saline or pastry-like note can also emerge, depending on the batch and palate sensitivity. This approach places it in a niche category of experimental or "textural" gins, where mouthfeel becomes as important as flavour. It is particularly effective in cocktails where richness and weight are desirable, such as spirit-forward drinks, while also offering a distinctive neat experience.
