Description

Description:

Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts is a stunning expression of Cote de Beaune Chardonnay, crafted with meticulous attention to detail. The vineyard's chalk and clay soils, studded with small stones, drain well and warm quickly, providing optimal ripening conditions for the grapes whilst preserving their elegance and finesse. Hand-harvested fruit is gently pressed and fermented in barrels, a third of which are new, allowing the wine to develop intricate layers of aroma and texture. After extensive maturation on fine lees, the result is an exceptionally refined white Burgundy, celebrated for its rich character and memorable complexity.

Tasting Notes
Appearance:
In the glass, this wine gleams with a luminous golden hue, hinting at its concentration and depth. Its clarity and brilliance are characteristic of the finest white Burgundies, with legs that gracefully trace the rim of the glass.

Nose:
The bouquet is immediately inviting, offering a complex harmony of aromas. Fresh notes of hazelnut and fern awaken the senses, joined by a subtle mineral edge derived from the chalky soils. With time, the aromatic profile evolves, delivering intriguing hints of truffle and tobacco, underlining the wine's inherent ability to develop beautifully with age.

Palate:
On the palate, this Puligny-Montrachet displays remarkable richness and roundness, balanced expertly by a vibrant line of freshness. Flavours of roasted hazelnuts mingle with touches of delicate white florals and earthy undertones, creating both generosity and verve. The complexity is uplifted by a lingering mineral backbone, a signature of the vineyard's unique terroir.

Finish:
The finish is long and satisfying, with persistent notes of stonefruit, nutty nuances, and a gentle touch of creaminess. Over time, the wine evolves deeper layers, suggesting savoury truffle and a wisp of tobacco, promising further rewards for those with the patience to cellar. This wine is perfectly suited to accompany a creamy fish pie or equally elegant dishes, showcasing its impressive gastronomic versatility.
