Originating from Turin, this vermouth is produced by Carpano and represents a distinctive style that sits between sweet vermouth and amaro. Its name, meaning “one point and a half,” refers to its balance of sweetness and bitterness, with a noticeably more pronounced bitter edge than standard rosso vermouth. First created in the late 19th century, it reflects a classic Italian aperitivo tradition with a more assertive profile.
The base wine is infused with a blend of botanicals, including wormwood and herbs, then combined with caramelised sugar to create both colour and depth. Greater emphasis is placed on bitterness, giving the vermouth added structure and intensity. Positioned in the premium category, it is widely used in cocktails where a more complex and slightly bitter vermouth is required, as well as served on its own as an aperitif.
