Description

Description:

Produced at the Foursquare Distillery in Barbados, this rum represents a traditional Bajan style built on transparency and minimal intervention. The brand traces back to 1926, with the Seale family playing a central role in shaping modern Barbadian rum production. Today, the distillery combines both pot and column still distillation, creating a blend that balances weight and clarity.

Made from molasses, the rum is aged for a full decade in ex-bourbon oak casks under tropical conditions. This accelerates maturation, increasing extraction of compounds such as vanillin and oak tannins while encouraging oxidation that softens the spirit over time. Unlike many contemporary rums, it is produced without added sugar, colouring, or flavouring, allowing the natural interaction between distillate and wood to define the profile. A defining characteristic is its drier, more structured style, which sets it apart from sweeter, more heavily modified rums. The balance between pot and column still components creates a profile that is both aromatic and controlled, with oak influence playing a significant role without overwhelming the underlying spirit. Compared to more fruit-forward Caribbean rums, it leans toward spice, nuts, and subtle fruit rather than overt sweetness.

The texture and flavour profile often appeal to whisky drinkers, as it carries a similar dryness, oak presence, and layered spice. It is typically best enjoyed neat, where its structure and gradual development in the glass can be fully appreciated.
