Schweppes

Schewppes was founded in 1783 when Johann Jacob Schweppe invented a process to produce carbonated water. Their new soda water a roaring success, even receiving a royal warrant, Schweppes went on to create the world's first soft drink, Indian Tonic Water. Using quinine as a malarial antidote, the product was exported to British colonies in India, who began mixing it with gin and lime to counter the bitter flavour, and Schweppes' heritage of mixing was born.
