Description

Description:

Stauning Rye Danish Whisky has distinct aromas of freshly-baked rye bread, wine gums and touch of pepper on the nose. On the palate, there's gentle dried fruit, ripe cherry and peppery oak, balanced by vanilla and citrus peels. This leads to a peppery and long smooth finish that's fruity and sweet.

Stauning Rye Danish Whisky was the first officially released product in the Stauning whisky range. It is a spirited interpretation of freshly made Danish rye bread. This Nordic rye whisky has dark, roasted aromas with a long fruity aftertaste. This is a rye whisky with a twist. Stauning Rye contains only floor malted rye and barley. The combination of malted rye and barley together with pot still distillation has created a smooth, fruity and full-bodied whisky.

The open-fired stills create complex and deep flavours and due to stills being heated this way they reach significantly higher temperatures (up to 650°C). This causes any solids in the wash to stick to the inner surface of the copper, in the same way as steak placed on a hot griddle pan will start to brown. This Maillard type reaction inside the still helps to create a range of different flavours like chocolate, caramel and roasted nuts.

Made exclusively from local Danish rye and barley. It's 100% floor-malted at the distillery. The whisky is double-distilled in small, open-fired pot stills and is unfiltered and not chill-filtered. As such, some natural residue may appear. It's then matured for 3-4 years in new American oak barrels. 100% handmade at the distillery from nothing but local ingredients.
