Yalumba is the oldest family-owned winery in Australia, founded in 1849 after British brewer Samuel Smith emigrated to Australia with his family and purchased 12 hectares of land in the Barossa Valley. By 1858, Yalumba was already taking prizes in local wine shows.

Today, Yalumba ranks among Australia's most important and influential wineries. The family are members of Australia's First Families of Wine, an alliance of twelve multi-generational winemaking families established to highlight the quality and diversity of the country's wine.
