Description

Description:

Blue Spot 7 Year Old Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey marks the triumphant return of an historic expression from the celebrated Spot range - one of the classic icons of Irish pot still whiskey revived after more than half a century. Crafted at the renowned Midleton distillery for the Dublin wine merchant Mitchell & Son, this release honours the traditional Spot lineage with a lively, robust character shaped by a thoughtful combination of cask influences.

Matured for no less than seven years in a meticulously balanced mix of ex-bourbon barrels, ex-sherry butts and Portuguese Madeira casks, Blue Spot at cask strength captures the essence of Irish single pot still style: fruit-driven yet spicy, richly textured yet remarkably harmonious. The use of multiple cask types gives depth and nuance, allowing bright tropical fruit notes to sit comfortably alongside warm baking spices, nutty undertones and echoes of toasted wood.

Bottled without chill filtration and presented at fuller strength, Blue Spot delivers a sense of energy and presence that belies its age statement. It feels generous rather than raw, with the structural backbone of traditional pot still whiskey - a mash of malted and unmalted barley - marrying beautifully with the complexity from extended wood ageing.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Rich golden amber - a warm glow that hints at its cask maturation history.

Nose
A vibrant and inviting bouquet. Juicy orchard fruits and ripe pear lead, followed by tropical notes of banana and pineapple. Hints of honeyed vanilla and warm baking spice - cinnamon and clove - weave through, with subtle toasted oak and citrus zest adding balance and depth.

Palate
Generous and layered. Orchard fruit sweetness opens the palate before waves of tropical fruit and stewed apple emerge. Toasted oak, baking spices and a touch of roasted nuts give richness, while vanilla cream and gentle maltiness round out the centre. The Madeira and sherry-influenced components add dried fruit notes that echo through the mid-palate.

Finish
Long, warming and balanced. Echoes of sweet spice, oak vanilla and a lingering fruitiness carry through with a mellow, satisfying warmth.
