Frangelico

Frangelico, legend says, was the creation of a Christian monk in the Piedmont region of Italy over 300 years ago. The monks were skilled with food and drink, including distilling and Frangelico is said to be the recipe of Fra'Angelico, a hermit monk living in the Piedmont hills.

Frangelico is made from local hazelnuts, toasted and crushed before being infused into an alcohol solution. This is then distilled, and blended with cocoa and vanilla distillates, sugar and water and laid to marry in vats for up to eight weeks. Frangelico is enjoyable neat, but also goes great with coffee, mixers of in an interesting cocktail.
