Description

Description:

Produced by Suntory in Osaka, this gin reflects a distinctly Japanese approach to balance and seasonality. The name "Roku", meaning six, refers to the six Japanese botanicals that define its identity - sakura flower and leaf, yuzu peel, sencha tea, gyokuro tea, and sansho pepper - each harvested at peak season to capture optimal flavour. These are combined with more traditional gin botanicals such as juniper, coriander, and citrus, but what distinguishes the production is the separate distillation of botanical groups. Different stills and techniques are used for each category (citrus, tea, spice, floral), allowing precise extraction before blending. This layered approach results in a profile that is highly controlled and integrated rather than dominated by any single element.

The concept of shun - using ingredients at their seasonal peak - is central to its philosophy, giving the gin a structure that moves through floral, citrus, herbal, and spicy notes in a balanced progression. Compared to classic London Dry styles, juniper is less aggressive, acting more as a framework for the Japanese botanicals. The texture is notably smooth and slightly rounded, partly due to the influence of tea botanicals, which introduce subtle tannin and depth. This makes it versatile: clean enough for highballs, but complex enough for more refined cocktails or sipping.
